Luke – Study 2
Pray

Take a moment to ask God to speak to you as you read and think about these passages.
Bible Reading
Luke 6:20–26, 27–36, 43–45
Key Teaching
In Luke 6:27–28, Jesus says:
“Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, and pray for those who hurt you.”
He also warns in verse 26:
“What sorrow awaits those who are praised by the crowds, because even their ancestors praised false prophets.” (NLT)
A Challenge That Goes Against the Crowd
Today, the world tells us to:
  • Protect our reputation at all costs
  • Fight back when someone criticizes us
  • Cut out people we find difficult
  • Surround ourselves only with people who agree with us
  • Focus on comfort, money, and being popular
But Jesus calls us to something totally different.
Your Challenge
Think of one person or group who has:
  • Criticized you
  • Opposed you
  • Treated you unfairly
This could be at school, at home, online, or in your community.
This week, instead of avoiding them or fighting back, try something completely counter-cultural:
  • Pray for them every day by name
  • Look for one practical way to do something kind for them (Luke 6:27)
  • If you can, speak a genuine blessing over them instead of responding to criticism
Reflection Questions
  1. When you think about this challenge, what does your resistance show about what’s in your heart? (Luke 6:45)
  2. How could living this way make you seem “poor” or unpopular in the world’s eyes—but “blessed” in God’s kingdom? (Luke 6:20)
  3. What “fruit” (positive change) could God produce in your life or in this situation if you trust Him and obey? (Luke 6:43–44)
Takeaway
Jesus calls us to “be compassionate, just as your Father is compassionate” (Luke 6:36). This means showing love not because people deserve it, but because God is loving us and shaping us to be like Him.
Spend some time praying for each other, for the challenge ahead, and thank God that He is with us as we try to live differently in a world that often goes the other way.
